H.R. 2362 capitalizes on the unique and genuine interest Turkish companies have shown in working with Indian tribes and will undoubtedly strengthen existing ties between the United States and Turkey, a key NATO ally currently working with U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.
Native American communities continue to struggle with high unemployment and poverty, and we believe the demonstration project authorized by H.R. 2362 could stimulate increased investment and economic activity in tribal communities.
This bill will help Tribes, Turkish companies and the U.S. government alike. It gives Tribes the tools they need to ensure economic development and implement improved standards of living for their members. It also enables the U.S. government to strengthen economic ties with the Republic of Turkey while relying on private activity to stimulate tribal economies.
