Perry did not understand Turkey's role and the reality that it is a valuable ally of the United States, Larson stressed.
The U.S. Democratic congressmen reacted to the Texas Governor Rick Perry's remarks made on Monday night on Turkey.
Speaking at a reception to inaugurate the new office of the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) in Washington, Chairman of the Democratic Party Group at the U.S. House of Representatives, John Larson, said that the Texas Governor Perry again showed his weakness regarding global policies.
Perry did not understand Turkey's role and the reality that it is a valuable ally of the United States, Larson stressed.
Perry lacks knowledge on the importance of strategic alliance and friendship, Larson underlined.
Remarks made by Perry neither represent the feelings of the American people nor the American government, Larson said.
A congresswoman from Texas and member of the House Judiciary Committee, Sheila Jackson Lee, has said that U.S. President Barack Obama, the U.S. State Department and the U.S. federal government have made the U.S.'s close ties with Turkey clear.
I believe that, instead of making accusations that are not based on realities, we should be in an effort of diplomacy to promote friendly relations. Candidates in the presidential campaigns should conduct research on U.S. allies before making wrong remarks. Our citizens should know that Turkey and the U.S. work together to further develop peace and democracy in the world, Lee indicated.
Governor Perry made negative remarks on Turkey on a TV program on Monday night.
Perry implied that Turkey's NATO membership should be questioned and that the U.S. should end all forms of aid to Turkey.
