49 teachers from 12 US cities are visiting Turkey this summer on study tours organized by the Turkish Cultural Foundation (TCF).
The teachers have been chosen from hundreds of applicants by 12 local chapters of the World Affairs Councils of America, under a partnership program with TCF.
They come from Illinois, Ohio, South Dakota, Nevada, Texas, California, North Carolina, Virginia, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Washington. Divided into two groups traveling to Turkey in July and August, the teachers will stay in Turkey for 15 days, visiting Istanbul, Bursa, Edirne, Ephesus, Sivas, Konya, Cappadocia, Ankara, as well as other cities and sites. During their tour, the teachers will learn about Turkish music and cuisine, the arts of paper marbling, Ebru, and world-famous tile making at the Iznik Foundation. They will visit a variety of educational institutions, such as Robert College, the first US college established outside of the United States, as well as Turkish public and private schools. Briefings by non-governmental organizations will focus on Turkish civic initiatives to improve education in Turkey, as well as political, social and economic issues.
