TCA Pledges to Match Funds to Aid Humanitarian Relief in the Philippines

On January 24, the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) announced a nationwide campaign with the Turkish American community to raise funds not less than $100,000 to help alleviate the devastation throughout the Philippines caused by Typhoon Haiyan. Every dollar contributed as part of this campaign until Friday, February 28 will be matched by TCA, doubling the impact of Turkish American support all across the country. Once all funds are collected, TCA will work with local Filipino-American organizations in Hawaii, Seattle, Texas and Maryland to host commemorative receptions to which members of Congress will be invited together with leaders of the Filipino American community and Turkish American leaders from these districts. TCA Sponsors Capitol Hill Event Co-organized by Leading Native American Housing Organizations

On February 26, TCA, together with the Navajo Housing Authority (NHA) and the National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC), will organize a reception and Film Screening at the Capitol Visitor’s Center.  During the event, held on the occasion of the NAIHC 2014 Legislative Conference, the Navajo Housing Authority will unveil a short documentary film entitled “Home" on the housing crisis in the Navajo Nation and the obstacles faced by the NHA. During the occasion, photos of American Indian tribal chiefs that were once gifted by the Smithsonian to the Ottoman Empire will be presented to NAIHC. On the occasion, Turkish Ambassador H.E. Namik Tan will be recognized for his contributions to relations between Turkey and Native Americans. 

AFOT to Host Embassy Lecture Series on the Balkan Wars

On February 27, as part of its 2013-2014 Embassy Lecture Series, the American Friends of Turkey (AFOT) will host a lecture on "1913: The Balkan Wars: a Turkish National Disaster" with Professor Justin McCarthy of the University of Louisville. The lecture series will continue to feature leading scholars on Turkey. All lectures are held at the Turkish Embassy in Washington, DC. AFOT is a multi-year recipient of TCA grants that support the organization's institutional growth and speaker program. For more information on the event please click here.

Ahiska Turkish American Community Center to Hold Capitol Hill Photo Exhibit and Reception

On February 27, the Ahiska Turkish American Community Center (ATACC) will organize a reception and photo exhibit on Capitol Hill to raise awareness of the Ahiska Turkish community's history and the ongoing discrimination against the Ahiska Turks living in Russia.  The event, sponsored by TCA, will mark the Ahiska Turkish community's first photo exhibit and reception on Capitol Hill.
