TCA Hosts State Attorneys General in Turkey

TCA is hosting the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) and Attorneys General from four states this week on a program that takes the delegation to Istanbul, Patara and Ankara. The tour is led by Doug Gansler of Maryland and includes David M. Louie of Hawaii, Lawrence G. Wasden of Idaho and Chris Koster of Missouri. The delegation met with Turkish President Abdullah Gul in Istanbul and will also be visiting the President of the Turkish Constitutional Court, members of the Turkish Parliament, as well as leading journalists, legal and foreign policy experts.

TCA Concludes 14th Congressional Delegation

On May 27, TCA concluded its 14th Congressional delegation to Turkey. Since 2009, TCA has taken 133 Members of Congress and senior staff to Turkey and its neighboring countries. The delegation, comprised of four senior staffers from the offices of Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), Rep. Tim Holden (D-Pa.), Rep. Joe Pitts (R-Pa.), and Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), had the opportunity to meet with business executives, leaders of the non-profit community, government officials, academia, and minority religious leaders during their visit to Istanbul, Ankara, Gaziantep and Patara. TCA President Speaks at World Political Forum-2012

TCA President Lincoln McCurdy spoke on the role of Turkish Americans in American political life at the Istanbul World Political Forum-2012 held between May 17-18 where world leaders from political, business and civil society circles came together to discuss pressing global challenges.

Turkish Studies Project Conference on World War I held in Sarajevo

The Turkish Studies Project at the University of Utah and the University of Sarajevo held a conference between May 16-20 in Sarajevo examining the causes and the socio-political impact of World War I on post-Ottoman territories. This conference is the third in a series initiated by the Turkish Studies Project, which is underwritten by a multi-year TCA grant. TCA Research Fellow Sevin Elekdag participated in the event and spoke on the current research focus as well as the educational and humanitarian programs of TCA.

TCA Hosts Baltimore Jewish Council at DC Office

On May 10th, members of the Baltimore Jewish Council (BJC) had a dinner meeting at the TCA Washington office, where several opportunities for future collaboration were discussed. This was the second meeting held between the two organizations. Elizabeth Shelton, Executive Director of the American Friends of Turkey (AFOT) was also in attendance.

Johns Hopkins Students Visit TCA Istanbul

A group of MBA students from Johns Hopkins University, led by the Hon.Mark Kennedy, visited the TCA Istanbul offices on May 28. The students were visiting Turkey as part of their courses at Johns Hopkins' Global Immersion Program. While in Turkey, they met with senior executives of leading Turkish and international companies and Minister Egemen Bagis, Turkey's Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator. A former member of Congress and senior executive, Mr.Kennedy is also an alumnus of the Turkish Cultural Foundation Cultural Tours to Turkey.

TCA Awards Study Tour Grant to Alfred University

TCTCA awarded a Study Tour Grant to Alfred University to support students travelling to Turkey on a tour entitled "Istanbul 2012: Crossroads of Civilization." The program starts with a semester-length class at Alfred and will conclude with a 4-week summer term at Isik University in Istanbul. The trip is scheduled for July 2-27, 2012. Alfred University is the fourth educational institution in 2012 to receive the TCA Study Tour Grant, joining George Washington University, Community College of Philadelphia and Syracuse University.
