The Central Asia-Caucasus Institute (CACI) fellowships

The Central Asia-Caucasus Institute at Johns Hopkins University
’s School of Advanced International Studies , invites young scholars to apply for short-term fellowships to do research in the Washington , DC area.

Successful candidates should be the U.S. citizens, should have completed a Ph.D., either have an academic appointment, should be teaching in the U.S. institutions of higher education, employed by a think tank in an analytical role, or work for the government. Finally, all individuals should have a strong interest in Central Asia, the Caucasus or Afghanistan, and a demonstrated interest in current international policy issues.Strong preference will be given to those scholars who live far from Washington to provide them access to the unparalleled resources of Washington (including archives, libraries, organizations, experts, media) and who have had little direct contact with the policy-making process affecting their regions of study. This Program parallels a second Fellowship Program open to young men and women from the region.

Those interested in being considered for this fellowship should send their applications to Mr. David Soumbadze (dsoumba1@jhu.edu) by October 27, 2008, including:

1) Detailed curriculum vitae, including information on the candidate’s education, professional experience, publications, etc.

2) A concise description (up to 1200 words) of the project to be pursued while in Washington, including a discussion of the project's relevance to current policy issues involving Central Asia, the Caucasus and Afghanistan.

The fellowships are one month in duration and the starting date is flexible. The program will cover a round trip transportation to Washington (up to $ 400), and a stipend of $ 3,000. Winners will be notified by November 4, 2008.
