TCA Hosts Members of TAIK and DEIK

On March 31, TCA hosted members of the Turkey-U.S. Business Council (TAIK) of the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK) for a discussion on TCA and TCF programs and activities and the U.S. election scene. The TAIK-DEIK delegation came during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Washington, DC. Among the delegation was the CEO of Turkish Airlines Temel Kotil.

TCA President Attends Gala Dinner

On March 30, TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy attended a gala dinner at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC where President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the audience. The dinner was hosted by the Turkey-U.S. Business Council (TAIK) of the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK) in collaboration with the Prime Ministry Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT).

TCA Attends Luncheon Organized by the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress

TCA President, G. Lincoln McCurdy and TCA staff attended a luncheon on Capitol Hill organized by the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress (USAFMC) entitled “The Syrian Crisis: Challenge for the U.S.-Turkish Alliance.” Speakers included experts on Turkey and U.S.-Turkey relations. Several members of Congress attended the luncheon including Representatives Ed Whitfield (R-KY/1st), Steve Cohen (D-TN/9th), Virginia Foxx (R-NC/5th), Gene Green (D-TX/29th) and Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA/48th).

TCA President Travels to Istanbul

TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy visited TCA’s Istanbul office and participated in discussions on U.S.-Turkey relations with representatives from Bilgi University, Kadir Has University, Bahcesehir University, Galatasaray University, the Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (EDAM), and members of the foreign press. He also spoke with U.S. Consul General Charles F. Hunter.

TCA President Travels to New York

On March 11, TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy travelled to New York City to participate in a board meeting for Turkish Philanthropy Funds (TPF). During his visit he also met with Turkish Americans in the area and discussed Turkish American issues.

TCA Discussions with Members of Congress

TCA Representatives had the opportunity to discuss U.S.-Turkey relations with Chairman of the Small Business Committee Congressman Steve Chabot (R-OH/1st), Turkey Caucus Co-Chair Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC/5th), Chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Congressman Bill Shuster (R-PA/9th), and Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX/10th).

TCA Scholarship Program for Students of Minority and Heritage Communities

Two students were selected as recipients of the TCA Study Abroad Scholarship for Students of Minority and Heritage Communities in March, bringing the total number of scholarship recipients to 472 since the program began in 2008. The program benefits American students of African, Armenian, Bosnian, Filipino, Hispanic, Macedonian, and Native American heritage. Scholarships are awarded to eligible undergraduate and graduate students who have been accepted to a university study abroad or language program in Turkey, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), or Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The students who received scholarships in March attend the University of California, Merced and Indiana University, and will be studying abroad at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey and the American University of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, BiH.

TCA Selects Interns for the 2016 Washington Summer Internship Program

TCA has selected 14 interns to participate in the 2016 TCA Washington Summer Internship Program. The program provides an opportunity for Turkish American collegiate students and recent graduates to intern in Washington, DC in offices of members of the U.S. Congress and select governmental and non-governmental organizations. The goal of the program is to foster interest in public affairs and service as well as to enhance Turkish American knowledge of American political life. Since the program's inception in 2007, TCA has provided 147 internship opportunities for Turkish Americans in Washington, DC.
