TCA Meets with Congressional Offices

TCA met with staff from the following offices to discuss the recent events in Turkey and the continued importance of the U.S.-Turkey relationship: Turkey Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA/11th) and Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-KY/1st) Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia and Emerging Threats Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA/48th), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX/10th), Chairman of the Rules Committee Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX/32nd), Vice-Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA/10th), Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA/3rd), Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ/3rd), Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA/2nd), and Turkey Caucus members Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA/13th), Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO/6th), Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK/4th), Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC/11th), Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA/4th), Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX/14th), Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY/1st), and Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT/AL).

Turkey Caucus Grows

The Congressional Caucus on U.S.-Turkey Relations and Turkish Americans reached 155 members with the addition of Representative Mark Walker (R-NC/6th). Currently, the Turkey Caucus is represented in 43 out of the 50 states and all six of the U.S. territories. The Turkey Caucus is a bi-partisan platform for members of Congress to focus on U.S.-Turkey relations and issues that concern Turkish Americans.

TCA Attends Young Leaders Reception in NYC

TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy traveled to New York City to attend a young leaders reception sponsored by Turkish Philanthropy Funds (TPF). At the event, McCurdy spoke with TPF Chairman Emeritus and Founding Partner Haldun Tashman, TPF board members and officers, and other guests about TCA’s youth programs and U.S.-Turkey relations.

TCA President Travels to Springfield, MA

TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy and Project Coordinator Liz Clark attended the Turkish American Society of Western Massachusetts’ annual picnic in Springfield, MA. Over 200 people attended the gathering, including members of the Ahiska Turkish community in the region. At the picnic, McCurdy discussed the importance of communicating with elected officials, components of the U.S. political system, Turkish Americans running for public office, and how to register to vote in Massachusetts. Clark also highlighted TCA youth programs and activities. After the picnic, they received a tour of the Society’s community center.

TCA Accepting Applications for Second Annual Turkish American Youth Leadership Congress

TCA is continuing to accept applications for the Third Annual Turkish American Youth Leadership Congress. The Congress will take place November 3-6, 2016 in Washington, DC, and will provide selected individuals the opportunity to experience Washington, DC and connect with their peers and heritage while learning about civic engagement, political activism, leadership, and the U.S.-Turkey relationship. TCA will select up to 25 young Turkish Americans to participate in this exclusive forum. Applications for the 2016 Turkish American Youth Leadership Congress are due by September 19, 2016.

TCA President Attends Turkish Victory Day Reception

TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy attended the annual August 30th Victory Day reception at the Turkish Embassy in Washington. The reception commemorated the 94th Anniversary of the Turkish Armed Forces’ victory at the Battle of Dumlupinar, which was the final battle of the Turkish War of Independence.

TCA Hosts SETA Student Delegation

TCA hosted a delegation of Turkish students from the Foundation for Political, Economic, and Social Research (SETA) at TCA headquarters in Washington. At the meeting, TCA briefed the delegation on TCA and TCF programs and activities as well as the U.S. political system and Congress.
