Turkish American Community Responds to Presidential Candidates
Washington, DC, February 22, 2008 - By all accounts, the 2008 presidential election is about "change." Yet, the ongoing Armenian dispute with Turkey is being politicized to the point of becoming an issue in the U.S. election campaign. In recent weeks some campaigns have issued statements in support of a 2007 congressional resolution that sought to characterize tragic events during the waning years of the Ottoman Empire as genocide. Far from the desired change that Americans are calling for, this sadly appears to reflect old-style politics as usual. read more
Muhtar Kent named Chief Executive Officer of Coca-Cola
Mr. Kent joined the company in 1978 and held a variety of senior positions. He left the company in 1999 to serve as president and CEO of the Turkish company Efes Beverage Group, which under his leadership grew into one of Europe’s largest international beverage businesses. He returned to Coca-Cola in 2005 to serve as president and chief operating officer of the company's North Asia, Eurasia and Middle East Group and later as the company’s president and chief operating officer. read more

PBS "American Masters" broadcasts documentary on Ahmet Ertegun
Ahmet Ertegun, a young Turk - literally - with an immigrant's passion for the African-American music he heard in the rigidly segregated Washington, D.C. nightclubs of the 1940s, when he lived in Washington where his father served as Turkish Ambassador to the US, recognized that "all popular music stems from black music, be it jazz or rock n' roll or rap." Ertegun's love of American black music led him to found Atlantic Records in 1947. read more

It is owned by the Turkish industrial giant Sabanci Holding based in Istanbul. Sabanci is one of the most prominent holding companies in Turkey with interests in a number of sectors including the automobile and tire industry, cement, chemicals, education, energy, finance, international trade and textiles. read more
First Turkish American United States District Judge
Judge Ozerden is a second generation Turkish American, son of a prominent psychologist in Gulfport, MS. After graduating from Gulfport High School in 1985, at the top of his class, Judge Ozerden attended Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service on a Navy ROTC scholarship, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1989. He then served six years active duty as a commissioned officer and naval flight officer in the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of lieutenant as an A-6E Intruder bombardier/navigator. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for missions flown over Iraq during Operation Southern Watch and Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. read more
